The magnificent yew tree | Tisa – copacul magnific
Această istorie încântătoare este despre un copac unic. Avertizare: Tisa (yew tree) este otravitoare, frunzele și fructele sale pot fi otrăvitoare si chiar pot sa duca la moarte.
====================================
This magnificent yew tree in St. George’s churchyard, Crowhurst, Surrey, UK, is believed to be 4000 years old. The circumference of the trunk is over ten metres. The tree was mentioned in an article published by John Evelyn on 15th October, 1662. The sepia photos are dated August 1895. It was also recorded by John Aubrey in his Natural History & Antiquities Of The County Of Surrey (1718/1719).
The tree is hollow and was, in the 19th century, converted to a summer house with tables and chairs. It has a wooden frame and door in the trunk. When it was being converted, an iron cannonball was discovered embedded in the tree. It was clearly a victim of the English Civil War!
